Earlier this month we said farewell to our lovely Te Maire Hoskins who had served iwi for over two and half years in our Oceans team.
During her time at Te Ohu Kaimoana, Te Maire worked hard across our fisheries space, with a particular passion for advancing the customary non-commercial aspirations of iwi across the motu. She played a key role in pātaka work, particularly as the co-lead for the Te Tai Hauāuru deepwater pātaka, and managed our online customary fisheries tool IkaNet, contributing to its modernisation to better support our kaitiaki on the ground.
She also played a key role in assisting iwi in Tīkapa Moana and Te Oneroa a Tōhē.Te Maire loved traveling to visit iwi, always valuing the opportunity to support and equally learn from them. Her bubbly, energetic personality and hard-working nature made her an incredibly popular team member, supplying the team with a wealth of knowledge, and a safe space to ask any questions.
She was deeply committed to upholding the settlement and the rights of iwi Māori while always ensuring the future aspirations of iwi were at the forefront of her decision making. Te Maire also enjoyed working at a kāhui level and spent time collaborating with our whānau whānui at Moana New Zealand and Sealord Group Ltd to continue to innovate in the fisheries space.
Te Maire was an amazing advocate for te reo Māori within Te Ohu Kaimoana, contributing a huge amount of work towards our Māori language strategy. We wish you well e hoa in your new role, supporting our people still via the customary team at Fisheries New Zealand who are exceptionally lucky to have you.
